A Mississippi saltwater sportfishing conventional tackle record for king mackerel has been set. The Commission on Marine Resources certified the record during its Aug. 17, 2010, meeting.
Barrett McMullan of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., broke the Mississippi saltwater sportfishing conventional tackle record on Nov. 20, 2009, with a king mackerel weighing 74 pounds, 1.6 ounces. The previous record of 64 pounds, 8 ounces, was set in 1999.

NOAA Closes Federal Fishing Areas Affected by BP Oil Spill
NOAA is restricting fishing for a minimum of ten days in federal waters most affected by the BP oil spill, largely between Louisiana state waters at the mouth of the Mississippi River to waters off Florida’s Pensacola Bay.
